About
Eastern Cape
Craft Collection
The Eastern Cape Craft Collection shop was opened in 2016 by the Eastern Cape Development Corporation to create a market for marginalised Small, Micro, and Medium Enterprises. ECDC Creative Industries has, over the past 15 years, been supporting enterprises within the craft and design sector. It has developed a creative Industries sector-specific programme in line with the Creative and Cultural Industries Master Plan initiated by the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC). The strategy is aimed at supporting the development of the creative industries sector. The programme has been implemented in partnership with the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD).
Our approach aligns with the IMTIP mandate to provide sector-focused development within the province. The creative industries programme focuses on developing the creative sector, mainly craft, design, visual arts, fashion, leather, and footwear. The shop has a curated selection of authentic, high-quality Eastern Cape craft products. The process of selecting the product is through having a well-thought-out and communicated selection process, going around all the different Eastern Cape districts to meet the crafters and enterprises and sift and curate well-produced products. The shop does give space to enterprises that may be on a fact-finding mission or that still need to meet the standard needed to supply the shop to be able to receive feedback . The shop has a collection of local traditional and contemporary products, including beadwork, jewellery, grasswork, woodwork and accessories like bags, belts, hats, scarves and shoes.
The shop showcases a diverse range of creativity, design, and Eastern Cape heritage under one roof. The enterprises consigned to the shop are then also exposed to:
Market Access
Product Development, Design and Innovation
Enterprise and Skills Development
